Hot Dog Sauce Recipe

Unless you live in Utah (specifically in Utah County), or you attended BYU, you probably have never heard of J Dawgs.

However, if you have heard of it, you know how absolutely delicious this place is — specifically because of their signature JDawgs’ sauce. It’s sweet, sticky, and pairs perfectly with just about any hot dog or sausage out there.

Even if you’ve never even heard of the name JDawgs, you’ll definitely want to file away this recipe for all the BBQs you’ll probably have this summer.

This recipe is extremely easy to make – you only need a few ingredients, and, chances are, you already have them in your pantry!

What is Jdawgs?

Jdawgs is a restaurant that started in Provo, Utah, just right off campus of BYU. It started in a very small location, and it has since expanded to have multiple locations in Utah.

They just sell hot dogs and polish dogs in their bakery fresh buns. I have yet to find a hot dog that I enjoy more than one from Jdawgs – especially when topped with their Jdawg sauce and chopped onions!

Why do you put crisscrosses in hot dogs and sausages?

As you can see, I made some criss-crosses across the sausages. This is what JDawgs always does, and since then, I’ve learned that this helps to get a little more of the smoky flavor into the hot dogs/sausages.

It really does make a difference! You can totally use a knife, or you can use something like The Slot Dog to make perfect and delicious slices.

How Should I Store My Sauce?

I find it easiest to store my Jdawg’s sauce in a plastic condiment bottle – you can easily buy these at most grocery stores and even at The Dollar Tree.

It can be kept at room temperature for a short while, but I would definitely keep it in the fridge in between uses.

How long does this sauce last?

This sauce will stay good in the fridge for at least a month – but probably longer! However, it probably won’t last that long, because it’s so delicious.

Be careful not to serve this to children under the age of one, due to it having honey in it.

Copycat JDawgs Sauce (6)

I would not suggest making any substitutes. If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, you could probably use white vinegar.

Can I double this recipe?

Absolutely! To fill one bottle, you’ll need to double it either way.

Make sure you add this J-dawg’s sauce to the table for all your summer cookouts this summer! I promise, you won’t regret it.
