Is a 3/4 guitar too small for adults? ›

A 3/4 size guitar is not necessarily too small for adults; it depends on personal comfort and playing style. Despite its smaller size, many adult players find it comfortable and easy to play, especially for travel or casual jam sessions.

Even though 3/4-sized guitars are recommended for 8-12-year-olds, this doesn't mean they are not suitable for adults, too.

Medium Picks: Medium picks (usually 0.7mm-0.9mm) are the most versatile type of pick and are suitable for most playing styles. They offer a balance of tone and flexibility. Thick Picks: Thick picks (usually 1mm or more) are best for playing lead guitar or heavy strumming.

Choosing a guitar size that is too big for your hands may be tempting, but it is not a good idea. It will surely limit your playing ability. Players with small hands should try the 3/4 size guitar. These guitars are much easier to handle and cheaper than full-sized guitars.

Even many professional guitarists have 3/4 guitar. The best-known example for it ishim was Ed Sheeran, who plays the 3/4 guitar most of the time. It seems to suit a song better than a guitar tone.

The resounding answer is yes. There really is no limit to what each one of us can achieve, and in many respects age is no restriction. The basic tenets of learning apply to everyone, regardless of age, advantages or disadvantages. Success requires hard work, dedication and perseverance.

Classical guitar players need to play multiple strings separately, so they normally use their thumb through ring fingers to play. A pick is generally not used. Of course, it is certainly acceptable to use a pick when playing chords or melodies only, like how one would play an acoustic guitar.

3/4 size guitars are generally for ages 7-11. However, many adult players love them too! At 3/4 size we recommend steel string, unless playing or focusing on classical music. With the 3/4 size, because the body of the guitar is a bit bigger, you are going to feel more volume and body come through the instrument.

What are the disadvantages of a short scale guitar? ›

On the downside, a shorter, slacker string travels further when plucked or strummed and is more prone to buzzing and fret rattling when played at higher dynamic levels. To understand sonic differences between scale lengths, it's helpful to visualize how acoustic guitars create sound.

Shorter scale instruments usually have sweeter trebles, hence the design of multi-scale (fan fret) guitars that sound good over all registers.

Thinner picks on the other hand, are more flexible and are great for fast strumming with little resistance. Examples of well-known guitarists who prefer different pick thicknesses include Eddie Van Halen, who used a thick 1.5mm pick, and Eric Clapton, who preferred a thinner, 0.7mm pick.

Normal tension

The most common tension string, also called "medium tension". Many classical guitars come with a normal tension strings when shipped. A very balanced string that lies between low tension and high tension in both tone and playability. If you are not sure what to get, start with a normal tension string.

Over reaching for the first fret puts you at a great technical disadvantage because your muscles are already stretched out making it difficult to properly move your fingers on the fingerboard. Generally, adults are comfortable with full size guitars (40” Concert size and 41” Dreadnought in acoustic guitars).

There are a ton of ¾ or “travel” sized guitars currently on the market and they are perfect for people with smaller hands. Popular models include the Little Martin, Ed Sheeran's signature Martin, the Baby and Big Baby Taylor, and Fender's Travel acoustic guitars.

Of course they can. Can an adult play a 1/2 size guitar? Can they? Yes.

Their hands have to stretch, reaching the frets, making the whole playing process very difficult. It isn't necessarily hard for adults with large hands to play a smaller guitar, but it can feel weird to play if the guitar is too small for your body size.
